Recent reports suggested the fact that Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops are freezing for a certain period of time. Apple has bravely come out and accepted the fact. Apple representative Bill Evans admitted the existence of this harddisk issue and assured that Apple is working towards releasing a software update.
This issue seems to affect only MacBook Pros with 7200 rpm hard drives. The hard disk falls asleep for a period of about 10 seconds during operation and freeze the computer for that time period. A loud beap is heard and a hard drive clicks before it freezes. We can only hope that the software update is rolled out as soon as possible.
This may give a blow to Apple and boost to it’s Rival, Microsoft! 🙂 Also check out the Apple Discussion Forum to get know what are the improvements our subscribe our blog to stay updated!
Thanks for this article. Got a brand new Macbook Pro and having this exact problem!
.-= Jeff´s last blog ..You know you’re from Arkansas when… =-.
Your Not alone 😛 My friend is also having the same problem!
Odd… mine freezes for longer periods, up to 45 seconds, but no beeps or sounds. Same issue? Apple support was unable to solve the problem after several attempts.
Seems like a weird problem. BTW when did u purchase your MacBook Pro? If it was between the above period, a firmware update will do it for you! If the problem persists, please let us know, if we can help you out.
It's not only on MBP with 7200 rpm HD. I have the same prob with MBP 13″ and 5400 rpm HD.
I hop it's not an Hardware issue
Did u report the problem to your dealer or post it in the Apple Forums?
I second that. 13″ mbp with 5400rpm Hitachi drive is causing me problems
May be you must report it to Apple.
Gonna have to third that.
13″ MBP, 5400rpm Drive… Hitches for 5-6 seconds for no apparent reason. Firefox seems to make it happen more, but it'll happen at finder too.
Along with that, problems with BootCamp have also been found. While using Windows software, apple's hardware gets heated too
