In a case, the judge in texas rules out the Microsoft cannot sell Word in United States due to patent infringement. Well this is quite shocking but it is true. Why? To know just read on.
The judge said that the order prohibits Microsoft from selling or importing to the United States any Microsoft Word products that have the capability of opening .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files (XML files) containing custom XML.
In the complaint i4i accused Microsoft on a method for reading XML.
The injunction, which becomes effective in 60 days, prohibits Microsoft from selling future Word products that allegedly use the patented technology. It also enjoins Microsoft from testing, demonstrating, marketing or offering support for those future products.
Microsoft also has to pay $290 Million as damages! lol. Microsoft isn’t prepared for it, surely.
We are disappointed by the court’s ruling, We believe the evidence clearly demonstrated that we do not infringe and that the i4i patent is invalid. We will appeal the verdict.
– Said a Microsoft Spokesperson.
Microsoft doesn’t seem in a mood to take that likely. It is surely going to kick it off and on the next hearing i think Microsoft will surely make it.
