I just recently found out, that my cab driver was on facebook and was asking me to add him. Well, so any people know me just because of twitter, yes more then those who searched for me on Google too.
With such rapid growth of Social Media, will Google be able to survive it? Google Being Killed by Facebook and Twitter? Seems, like a joke now. But perhaps in future this may be the truth.
There are so many reasons to support it. Check out some Statistics, when i compared Twitter, Facebook and Google Interms of traffic the receive.
Here is a Graph of the Pageviews all three sites receive.
Now you know, that Facebook atleast is not much far from Google, with it’s 300 Million User Base and growing. If Stats are to be further believed then Facebook had a growth of traffic about 202% in this year while Twitter had a outstanding growth of about 660% but Google only had a growth of 10%. If this Further goes on then. the future is not far when Facebook and Twitter will rule the web.
That may be one of the reasons why many people changed their homepage from Google.com to Facebook.com. As we know, Google’s Main Target is the Search Market which has seen a dip while being compared to facebook, it’s user base has grown enormously.
This proves it out that, now people have become less interested in searching for stuff rather then networking. Twitter has also seen great growth and with the speed at which it is growing, it will soon come near Google and Facebook.
i dont think so. each of those sites (facebook, google and twitter) have their own area of dominence and job to do. They do overlap and facebook / twitter might beat google as the most visited websites too, but to think that they will replace google is unimaginable.
what google does is search. search is required by almost everyone who has access to the net, unlike networking on twitter / facebook which not everyone wishes to do.
Look, what you are telling is true. But as per surveys and analysis, it has been found that due to increase in volume of social networking the searches have seen a drop. There is no reasoning to it, but simple proof out here.
It's very hard to imagine how social networking will actually replace Search. Without Search, social networking won't see the light of the day and likewise, without social networking, Search wouldn't have a target to index for people to find. When Social Networks increase in size and popularity, cluttering of data is bound to occur and that is where Search comes in. There are hundreds of other reasons to prove statistics don't tell the total truth but what i have stated is just a point.
Your totally correct with it. But you see, twitter and facebook could take over google in terms of search too if they later decide to get up with new products? You never know!
It is very unlikely. Let's say, given a situation where you are a CEO of twitter. You wouldn't venture into Search, primarily because it is a very large field to invest upon. Furthermore, twitter itself is it's main product and what every management would do for their company is to focus on the main selling point and work to simplify things further. Google also houses many of the world's talents in many sectors. Getting them on a new company's list isn't an easy feat to do.
Furthermore, in the viewpoint of a consumer. Facebook has our privacy at their hands. And by going into Search, it may mean they are willing to compromise our privacy. However, it wouldn't happen as it is very illogical of them to throw away their money pile. Similarly with twitter, trust isn't an object to play around with. At the most, Google is just a Search Engine and even if it does hook up a few privacy concerns, it is usually the fault of either the consumer's mistake of releasing the data or the Site that isn't able to fulfill it's promise to the consumer in providing privacy.
